Turkey’s first and only science fiction library Özgen Berkol Doğan was established in December 2012 to commemorate the young scientist Özgen Berkol Doğan who passed away in 2007.
Our aim is to acquire all the books published in Turkey in the genres of science fiction, fantasy, and horror literature, also books in other languages as much as possible for readers who want to read these works. For this purpose, the library has not only Turkish books but also books in Vietnamese, Hindi, Korean, Russian, Italian, Arabic, Azerbaijani, Serbian, Armenian, Hemshish, Greek, Polish, Norwegian, Indonesian, Hebrew, Danish, Spanish, and Thai. There are nearly 12.000 books and periodicals about Turkish and World Literature, social sciences, science, technology, art, sports, cinema, philosophy, and psychology, especially science fiction and fantasy literature.
The list of works in our ever-growing collection can be found here.
Thanks to the people who donated some of their collections, we also have signed and very valuable reference books in our library. Such as books belonging to writer and journalist Fikret Adil, signed by many important writers and poets of Turkish Literature, are exhibited in the “Fikret Adil Collection” section of our library, which was enriched by the donation of his wife Gülen Adil.
Another feature of Özgen Berkol Doğan Science Fiction Library is the seminars and film screenings held on Thursdays. Physics, literature and science fiction talks continue to be held on certain Thursdays of each month, while the last Thursdays of the month are reserved for film screenings. In addition, the library has become even more lively thanks to the “Music Talks” we organize once a month, the “Horror Movie Hour” and “Cinema Talks” we organize bimonthly and the monthly workshops held in different fields, moreover the “Sunday Talks” open an area for participants to talk to each other in different subjects. Our speakers in the seminars are academicians, writers and related researchers who are experts in their fields.
